Sleeping Rough

In this, her second collection of poetry, the author has woven her words through real people in real crisis. And in the end, she chose not to look away. Working through her church, she established The Garden of Eaten, a community garden, a place of welcome and a source of sustenance for the needy. All profits from this book will benefit the Garden of Eaten.

Winter Sighting

Early bitter-chill morning
I see him. He’s ten, twelve most.
Rawboned face, unruly hair,
broomstick arms and legs
in sleeveless tee, shorts.
Sneakers, tongues out, no socks.
He strides against traffic
down the road to school,
his twiggy spine bent
under the ponderous hump
of the backpack he carries.
I shiver for him.
